For a moment, I saw something flicker in his eyes—a flash of something dark and dangerous—but he controlled it, and when he turned to me, he was again the charming Count. “Duty calls,” he said, with a grim smile. He took my hand and raised it to his lips. His kiss was cold, but his eyes held a promise that was anything but. “I will find you again, Elara. I have not finished with you.” And as he walked away, I knew, with a certainty that chilled me to the bone, that I had not finished with him either.
