Come alone. —A I clutched the letter to my chest, feeling the paper crinkle against my bodice. The rain began to fall again, soft and insistent, washing the streets clean. Tomorrow, I would have to choose. Tonight, I would dream of shadows and candlelight, of ancient curses and forbidden love, of a man who offered me eternity and a woman who promised only darkness.
