As Chloe launched into a detailed explanation of the next "fun activity" – a couples' charades game, no less – Amelia knew, with a chilling certainty, that her carefully curated cynicism was starting to crumble. The joke, it seemed, was on her. And for the first time in a long time, she wasn't entirely sure she wanted to laugh it off.
