…As the bell chimed for the end of their conversation, Finn gave her a genuine, unpracticed smile. “Well, Amelia, this has been… surprisingly not terrible. You’re a breath of fresh, cynical air.” Amelia found herself returning his smile, a rare, unguarded expression. “You too, Finn. You too.” As Finn moved on to his next “date,” Amelia watched him go, a strange lightness in her chest. The fairy lights seemed a little less aggressive, the music a little less cloying. Maybe, just maybe, Chloe’s ridiculous matchmaking scheme had stumbled upon something more than just another disastrous encounter. Maybe, just maybe, the joke was on Amelia, and she was starting to find it rather funny.
