…Lena watched the readings, her face a mask of intense concentration. Suddenly, an alert flashed on her screen. “Pressure spike!” she exclaimed. “Aris, the catalytic converter is showing an anomaly. It’s not processing the byproducts as efficiently as we calculated.” Aris rushed to her side, his own excitement momentarily eclipsed by Lena’s sharp intake of breath. The dream, so close to reality, seemed to teeter on the brink of a setback. The hum of the machines suddenly felt louder, more ominous. The plastic tide, it seemed, was not going to be overcome without a fight.
