…"I got it," I whispered. "I got the scholarship." My mother let out a cry of joy and embraced me. My father placed his hand on my shoulder, his eyes glistening. That evening, the village seemed different. The air felt lighter. The sounds of animals and children playing seemed sweeter. I sat beneath the tree where my father often sat, the letter in my hands, reading it again and again. I had done it. I had taken the first step on the road to a better future. But I knew the journey was only beginning. The scholarship would take me to a new town, a new school, new challenges. I would have to leave my family, my friends, everything I knew. And I was afraid. But I was also ready.
