…I looked at the children. Eliza was asleep, her head on Jonas's lap. Jonas was staring at the fabric in my hand. "We're not safe yet," he said. "I know." "But we're together." I nodded. "And that's all that matters." I folded the fabric and tucked it into my pocket. Then I lifted Eliza, took Jonas's hand, and started walking east. The village was still hours away. The truth was still hidden. And somewhere behind us, a man had given everything to buy us time. I didn't know if we'd make it. But I knew one thing: we were not going to stop. Not until we found a place where the signal couldn't reach. Not until we were safe. Not until the dreams stopped. And maybe not even then.
