…I turned off the main light, leaving only the soft glow from the screen. The room dimmed to a gentle twilight. I lay down on the last empty bed, facing the door, my body tense even as my mind tried to relax. But as I listened to the steady breathing of the children, the hum of the lights, the faint whisper of air through the vents, something in me loosened. A knot I hadn't known I was carrying began to untie. We had found a haven. A place to breathe. A moment of peace. And tomorrow, when the sun rose, we would face whatever came next. Together. I closed my eyes and let sleep pull me down, soft and deep, like the first real rest in years.
