…This apartment, this five-dollar sanctuary, is the stage upon which I am rediscovering who I am when I am not fighting merely to survive. It is the space where the poet, buried under layers of dirt and desperation, can finally breathe the air of gratitude, and realize that the simple act of having a place to be is the most profound poem of all. The life I have now is quiet, earned, and utterly precious.
