…Danny squeezed his hand. “Don’t look back, Alf. We’ve got a life to go back to.” For the first time, Alfie believed him. They stepped out into the cool morning. The sun was rising, pale but hopeful, over the abandoned tracks. Alfie breathed deep, feeling the warmth of Danny’s arm around his shoulders, the safe solidity of Bruce and Pete ahead, the relieved swagger of Harry at his side. He didn’t know what came next—but for now, they were alive, together, and the nightmare was over. Or so they hoped.
