…“The core is down there,” Pete said. “But the EMP won’t last long. We need to be fast.” Bruce paused at the top of the stairs, looking back at the tubes. Danny and Alfie floated in their green prisons, still and silent. He wanted to smash the glass, to pull them out, to save them. But there was no time. “I’ll come back for you,” Bruce whispered. “I promise.” Then he turned and followed Pete and Harry down into the darkness, the weight of his promise pressing on his heart, and the Spider-machine’s red eye beginning to flicker back to life behind them.
