…Bruce pocketed the device. “Thanks, Pete.” Pete shook his head. “Don’t thank me yet. Just come back alive.” As Bruce and Harry stepped out into the night, the wind carried a faint sound—a low, mechanical hum, like a voice singing from far away. Bruce paused, straining to hear. “Did you hear that?” Harry whispered. Bruce nodded, his grip tightening on the sledgehammer. “It knows we’re coming.” They moved forward, into the dark, with the red light of the Ringmaster’s gaze burning somewhere in the distance, and the weight of a terrible secret pressing down on their shoulders.
