…I shook my head. "No. I can't fall behind." "Kyle, your health is more important than grades." "I know, Mom. But I can handle it." She looked like she wanted to say more, but she just nodded and turned back to the stove. I finished my breakfast and went to my room. The pill bottle sat on my nightstand, a constant reminder of the nightmare I couldn't escape. I picked it up and stared at it. Dr. Sharma's new prescription. It was supposed to help, but it felt like a chain around my neck. I put it down and sat on my bed, my head in my hands. The Jester's laugh echoed in my mind, and I knew, with a cold certainty, that tonight would be worse. The game was far from over.
