…I turned away from his window, the rain washing over me, blurring the edges of my resolve. The decision was not made, but a seed had been planted. A dangerous, defiant seed. Marcus wanted a weapon. He would get one. But he wouldn’t get one that had forgotten how to feel. Not if I could help it. The path ahead was shrouded in mist, a dangerous ascent, but for the first time in a long time, I felt a flicker of something akin to… purpose. A purpose that included Liam, however precarious that inclusion might be. The city lights seemed to pulse with a newfound urgency, and in their glow, my veins thrummed with an unseen energy, a silent promise of what was to come.
