…Leopoldo, his device now humming steadily, watched the sky. The spiral was still there, a gaping maw of darkness, but the fires seemed to be intensifying, their light becoming more concentrated, more focused. And then, he saw it. A flicker within the spiral, a momentary distortion that suggested… a passage. “It’s not just a wound,” he whispered, his voice filled with a newfound urgency. “It’s a door. And it’s opening.” He looked at the terrified faces around him, at the alien forest, at the bleeding sky. “We have to go through it.”
