He hung up and looked at his hands. They were trembling. He set down the chisel and walked back into the house, where Skye was dozing on the couch, Margaret asleep beside her. He stood in the doorway, watching them. His whole world, in one room. Fragile and precious. He would protect them. No matter what it cost. The lavender and the butterfly would be born into a world of danger, but also into a world of love. And that love, Dale knew, was the most powerful force there was.
