…It felt like building a fortress. But it also felt like building a home. Skye came out to stand beside him, her hand on her stomach. "How are you feeling?" "Better. Safer." He turned to her. "And you?" "Nauseous. But happy." He smiled. "That's the morning sickness. Or maybe it's the twins already causing trouble." She laughed. "Probably." They stood together, watching the workers, the morning sun casting long shadows. The threat was still out there, but somehow, in this moment, it felt distant. They had each other. They had their family. They had hope. And that, Dale thought, was the most powerful weapon of all.
