…Dale felt the ground shift beneath him. The past. His past. The betrayals, the heartbreaks, the years of self-imposed isolation. He had tried to bury it all, to build a new life with Skye. But someone had dug it up. "Do you know what that means?" Skye asked, her voice barely a whisper. He met her eyes, and for the first time in a long time, he felt the old fear creeping back. "I think I might." The lavender field, the butterflies, the stolen moment of peace—it all felt like a dream now, fading in the harsh light of reality. Whatever was coming, it was already on its way. And Dale knew, with a certainty that settled in his bones, that their story was far from over.
