…They fell asleep tangled together, the kitten nestled in the hollow of their joined hands. And in the morning, they would wake to the sound of birds and the promise of a new day—a day of sawdust and laughter, of teaching and learning, of building a world that had room for everyone who needed a place to belong. But for now, there was only the quiet rhythm of breath, the warmth of skin against skin, and the knowledge that they had found, at last, the thing that could not be broken: a love that was patient, kind, and enduring as the wood they worked with, shaped by time but never destroyed. And that, Dale thought, as sleep claimed him, was the finest restoration of all.
