…Eleanor Vance, the bemused ballerina, had given him more than just a memory. She had given him a question. A gaping, unnerving question mark that hung in the air, casting long shadows over the carefully constructed edifice of his past. He looked back at the photograph, at the faces of the eleven-year-olds, so full of innocence and unknowing. And he knew, with a certainty that settled deep in his bones, that he had to find out what Sarah had been trying to tell him. He had to find out who had wanted him to believe what he had believed. The bemused ballerina had opened a door, and Stuart, the grumpy old man, was about to step through it, whether he was ready or not.
