…The bluefin, freed from its torment, plunged back into the abyss. For a heart-stopping moment, nothing happened. Elias held his breath, his eyes fixed on the water. Then, the shark, its intended meal gone, veered sharply. It circled once more, a silent question hanging in the air. Elias watched, his heart hammering against his ribs, as the dark shadow gradually receded, swallowed by the immensity of the ocean. He was alone again, the engine’s hum a fragile reassurance. But the silence was deafening, a stark reminder of the fury he had narrowly escaped, and the offering he had made to the ocean’s wrath. He was alive, but the taste of fear lingered, a bitter, salty residue on his tongue.
