…With a ragged breath, Elias let go of the line. He watched, his heart a leaden weight in his chest, as the tuna, his magnificent tuna, was dragged beneath the waves. The shark, its victory declared with a violent thrash, disappeared into the darkening sea, leaving behind only rippling eddies and the lingering scent of blood and fear. Elias slumped against the railing, his body trembling, the silence that followed the shark’s departure more deafening than the storm. The ‘Sea Serpent’ bobbed gently, adrift in the vast, indifferent ocean, and Elias, stripped of his prize, was left with only the chilling echo of his sacrifice.
