…I stood up and walked to the window, pressing my forehead against the cool glass. The world outside was indifferent. The houses stood silent, their windows dark. No one was coming to save me. No one was going to rescue me from this suffocating loneliness. I was on my own, just like I’d always been, carrying the weight of a childhood I couldn’t escape and the fear of a future I didn’t know how to build. The realization settled over me, cold and heavy, like the perpetual smog of North Philadelphia, a constant reminder that even in this supposed refuge, I was still lost. And the hardest part was, I was starting to believe that maybe, just maybe, I deserved to be.
