…A light was on in the building—a single window, on the second floor, that I had not seen before. It was faint, barely a glow, but it was there. I stared at it, my heart beating faster. The building had no windows. I had walked around it. There were no windows. But now there was a light. I got into the car and started the engine. I did not look back. The thread was pulling me forward, toward the tree, toward the hour when the sun and moon would share the sky. I drove through the dark, the compass needle pointing steady, the two keys heavy in my pocket. Somewhere ahead, Juokas was waiting. Or M. Or the end of the thread. I did not know which. But I knew I was almost there.
