She met the unseen gaze with her own, her fear now a potent fuel for her courage. “We will regret nothing,” she declared, her voice echoing in the silent house. “Because we will be free of you.” She knew then, with absolute certainty, that this was just the beginning. The fight was far from over. But she also knew she had made her stand. She had faced the darkness, and she would not back down. She would find a way to save Emily, no matter what it took. The mother’s resolve had been forged in the heart of fear, and it would burn until Selly was gone, or until Sally herself was consumed. The battle for Emily’s soul had begun in earnest.
