…"No, honey. Selly is just a pretend friend. There's nothing in there but us." She held Emily tight, trying to chase away the creeping dread that was beginning to feel like a physical weight. She looked at the linen closet door, its dark wood seeming to absorb the scant light. For a fleeting moment, she thought she saw a shadow move beneath it, a darkness that didn't belong. Dismissing it as her own overactive imagination, she gently steered Emily towards the kitchen, determined to fill their home with light and warmth, and to chase away whatever shadows were beginning to gather. But a seed of fear had been planted, and Sally had a terrible feeling it was about to start growing.
