…As Jon turned to leave, following the path indicated by the signpost, he heard a distant, indignant shout from Barty. It seemed his “shortcut” had led him directly into a rather large, and very muddy, pigsty. Jon couldn’t help but laugh. It wasn’t the uncontrollable, gem-induced laughter he’d been seeking, but it was genuine. And as he stepped onto the path, the silent village fading behind him, he realized that perhaps, just perhaps, he was already starting to find what he was looking for. The journey itself, with all its absurdity and unexpected encounters, was proving to be the real magic.
