…My life as Samuel Stone had begun with a lie, a desperate gambit to escape the consequences of being Mr. Stamp. And now, even with Woodville gone, the game was far from over. The mafia would still remember my involvement, even if Woodville was no longer their target. Agent Miller, though off the case, would likely never truly forget me. And I, Samuel Stone, would have to continue walking this precarious tightrope, forever looking over my shoulder, forever playing the part. The sadness for Agent Miller was a fleeting emotion, a momentary lapse in my self-preservation. The real emotion that dominated was the cold, hard calculation of survival. And for that, I was still very much Mr. Stamp.
