And for a moment, she allowed herself to believe it too, to get lost in the audacious sweep of their shared dream, the desert wind whispering secrets of possibility around them. But as she looked at the distant, indifferent stars, a tiny shard of doubt, cold and sharp, pricked at the edges of her contentment. It was too easy. Too perfect. And in their world, perfection was often the most dangerous illusion of all. The desert night, vast and silent, held its breath, waiting.
