…I had pushed it back, at least for now. But I knew, with an absolute certainty that settled like a cold stone in my gut, that this was only a reprieve. The Guardian had been disturbed, its ancient prison breached, and it would not be content to remain locked away forever. The village was safe, for this moment, but the peril was far from over. It had merely retreated, waiting. And I, Daniel, the boy who found the key, was now bound to this secret, this ancient struggle, whether I wished it or not. The door was still there, hidden in the woods, a constant reminder of what lay just beyond our reality, and of the terrible price of disturbing what was meant to remain buried.
