…Behind them, the inferno continued its relentless march. The pyroclastic flow, a hungry, insatiable beast, devoured the mountainside, leaving behind a desolate, scorched wasteland. The vibrant hues of the alpine meadows were gone, replaced by a uniform black, a testament to the earth’s violent rebirth. The air, thick with ash, stung their eyes and burned their throats. Every breath was a conscious effort, a battle against the suffocating embrace of the eruption. They were running from the very breath of La Garita, a breath that carried with it the promise of utter annihilation. The inferno had awakened, and its hunger was insatiable.
