As she reached for it, a faint scratching sound echoed from the front door, closer this time, more insistent. But in Grandpa Bob’s room, bathed in its gentle light, the sound seemed to recede, losing its power, its terror. The unease, however, remained, a lingering shadow in the corners of their minds.
