…Together, the three of them walked across the living room, their footsteps unnervingly loud on the wooden floor. They didn’t look back towards the hallway, towards the door that had twice been tested by an unseen visitor. Their focus was fixed on the heavy oak door of Grandpa Bob’s study, a sanctuary they hoped would hold the answers, or at least, the safety, they so desperately needed. The ticking of the grandfather clock faded behind them, replaced by the sound of their own racing hearts and the unsettling knowledge that the house, and whatever lurked outside its walls, was far from finished with them.
