…There was a loud, sharp snap. The latch sprang open. The ornate wooden box sat before them, its lid now slightly ajar. The faint hum emanating from it intensified, a low, resonant vibration that filled the room. The scraping at the front door stopped abruptly. The silence that followed was pregnant with anticipation, a silence far more terrifying than any noise. Amy looked at her siblings, her face pale but determined. They had followed their grandmother’s instructions. They had reached Grandpa Bob’s room. They had found the box. But what lay inside?
