…The first page was dated five years ago. Lily's handwriting was neat, careful. Today I met someone special. They were painting by the lake, and I knew I had to say hello. Sam's breath caught. The fog in their mind swirled, threatening to close in, but Sam held on. The journal was heavy and real, a solid weight against the emptiness. Clara stood in the doorway, her hand on the frame. "Do you want to read it here?" Sam looked up, tears streaming down their face. "I think I need to." And Sam opened the journal to the first page, the words waiting to be read, the memories waiting to be found.
