I looked at Jax, his face a mixture of fear and resolute determination. I looked at Christopher, his cynicism battling with a primal urge to survive. And I looked at Lyra, her eyes reflecting the dying light of the alien sky, and saw not a stranger, but a beacon in the encroaching darkness.
