…As the class packed up, Mr. Pine hopped in, his paintbrush tufts bouncing. “Wonderful debating! Now, I have a surprise. Next week, all groups will start a secret project—one that will need every owl, squirrel, mouse, and hedgehog’s best ideas.” Eyes widened around the classroom. Pip squeaked, “What kind of project?” Mr. Pine winked. “If you knew everything, it wouldn’t be a surprise!” Owlette caught Fern and Pip’s excited glances. Suddenly, not knowing felt like the start of an adventure. She wondered what mysteries the next project would bring—and for once, she didn’t mind not having the answer just yet.
