The fall

…I placed my hands on the glowing symbols, feeling a surge of energy flow into me, and through me, into the nexus. The depression in the center pulsed, waiting. “And if this place is a lie,” I continued, my gaze sweeping across the chaotic landscape, “then the truth is the only thing that matters.” With that, I pushed my will, my intent, into the heart of the mechanism. The symbols blazed, the nexus flared, and the world around us held its breath. The chasm, the entity, the fractured sky… they all froze, suspended in a moment of impossible stillness. The silence returned, but this time, it was a pregnant silence, heavy with anticipation. The ascent had begun.
