She looked at her own reflection in the darkened pane of the window, a pale, spectral image gazing back. The shadows beneath her eyes seemed to deepen, mirroring the shadows within her soul, leaving the reader with the lingering weight of a profound, hidden sorrow, and the tantalizing, terrifying prospect of what lay yet unrevealed.
