…He led them out, away from the Tree of Life, away from the possibility of eternal existence in their fallen state. As they stepped out of the Garden, the cherubim, their faces grim, their flaming swords turning every way, stood guard at the entrance, a barrier between them and the life they had so carelessly forfeited. They stood outside, the gate of Eden closed behind them, the vast, unknown world stretching before them. The peace was gone, replaced by the chilling mystery of a future fraught with toil, pain, and the inevitable journey back to the dust from which they had come. The first great loss had occurred, and the echoes of that loss would resonate through all the ages to come.
