…Then she saw it. On the roof of the building across the street, a figure stood silhouetted against the smoke. Tall. Wings—black, tattered, too large for its body. Its eyes burned blue, like the symbol. Like the figure she had just destroyed. It looked down at them. And it spoke, the voice filling the air without sound, resonating in her skull: You have opened the wrong gate. Now the world ends not in fire, but in silence. The hum returned, but different—not a pulse, but a flat, endless note. The fire behind them went out. The smoke cleared. The sky turned black. And the winged figure spread its arms and began to descend.
