…The air was thick with smoke. The wall of fire was closer now, eating its way down the block. But that wasn't what stopped them. In the middle of the intersection, a figure stood. It was tall, human-shaped, but its skin was like cracked stone, and its eyes burned with the same blue light as the symbol. It turned its head toward them, and the hum roared back to full strength, shaking the ground. "What is that?" Chloe whispered. The figure raised its hand. The creatures behind them stopped at the church doors, waiting. Samira looked at the disc in her hand. It was warm now. The whispers returned, but only one voice, clear and calm: You have what I need. Come with me, or everyone dies.
