…“The front doors!” Samira said. They ran through the nave, but as they reached the entrance, more creatures smashed through the stained-glass windows. The church was surrounded. “Back!” Garcia shouted, firing again. “The back exit!” They retreated toward the sacristy, but a creature dropped from the ceiling, landing between them and the door. It stood upright, its head tilting at an impossible angle. Its mouth opened, and the voice that came out was the same as before—too many voices at once: “You can run. But you can’t hide.” The hum peaked, shaking the church to its foundations. The floor beneath Samira’s feet gave way, and she fell into darkness.
