Liam came last, shoving his hands into his jacket pockets. The figure turned and began to walk east, its light casting no shadows. The spiral in the clouds followed, rotating slowly above it. Samira let out a breath she hadn't realized she was holding. The hollow space inside her still echoed, but for the first time since she touched the heart, she felt something flicker—not hope, not yet, but a thread of curiosity strong enough to pull her forward. They followed the light into the gray morning.
