…Chloe turned. Her eyes were red, but there was a strange calm in them. She picked up her notepad and wrote one last message: “I was supposed to do this from the beginning. Maybe this is how I make it right.” She stepped through the door of light. The door vanished. The disc on the pedestal cracked completely, shattering into dust. The green light died, plunging them into darkness. A rumble shook the ground. A new sound rose from below: a low, rhythmic hum, steady as a heartbeat. Then a voice—Chloe’s voice, clear and strong—spoke from everywhere at once. “The gate is open. Come find me.” The floor beneath them split open, and they fell.
