…They were trapped. From the center of the room, the glowing object pulsed faster. A crack appeared in the floor, running from the object to the wall. The crack widened, and a new staircase spiraled downward, deeper into the earth. A single word echoed through the chamber: “Come.” Samira looked at the group. They were all staring at the new staircase. Chloe’s hand found hers. Amir pressed close. Liam’s jaw was set. “We keep going,” Samira said. “We don’t have a choice.” She stepped toward the staircase. The glow of the object faded, and the only light came from the depths below, a pale, sickly green. The voice whispered one last time: “The reckoning has begun.”
