…I didn't know how I would do it, or where this path would lead, but I knew, with a certainty that surprised me, that I had to try. I had to find Nika again, before the shadows consumed her completely. The dance with the shadows was far from over, but for the first time, I felt like I might be learning a new step, one that led away from him, and towards myself. The ending beat of this night was not one of resolution, but of a dawning, fragile hope, the first tentative stirrings of a rebellion waged not with shouts, but with a quiet, internal refusal to fade.
