…He’d observe her digging little exploratory holes near the flowerbeds, his gaze calm and steady. He never seemed bothered by her zoomies or her playful growls. In fact, sometimes, when Frankie did a particularly enthusiastic wiggle, Frog would let out a soft, contented “Croak,” a sound that to Frankie’s ears, sounded like a quiet chuckle. Daddy Worm’s warning felt a bit like a shadow now, a distant echo that was slowly losing its power. Frog had never, not once, done anything to hurt her. He never even seemed to pee at all when she was around. Maybe, Frankie thought, maybe Daddy Worm was just being extra, extra careful. He loved her so much, he wanted to protect her from everything.
