For The Thrill of it. A Michael Stone adventure.

…Michael checked the pistol. Four rounds. He tucked it into his waistband, the metal cold against his wet skin. "Let him look," he said. The searchlights swept the river. The barge creaked beneath them. Somewhere downstream, Loc's boat engine faded into the dark, but the silence that replaced it wasn't peace. It was the pause between movements. They were alive. They were together. They were stranded on a fuel barge in the middle of a Vietnamese river with no way to call for help and a smuggler who had already shown he had men in the police, the docks, and every road out of Da Nang. Michael watched the lights on the bank and listened to the river and planned his next move.
