The paranoia of the past hour had been a dress rehearsal. Now, the performance was mandatory. The whispers in the walls were rapidly becoming sirens in the street. He closed his eyes, inhaling deeply, bracing for the inevitable crash that always followed their brightest bursts of chaos. He held Rene tight, because no matter what reality fractured around them, holding onto her was the only objective truth he still possessed.
